Mystery find!
A few months ago I was in search of some interesting forms to make a series for this show. While walking through an antique mall in Chico, which is like an anthropology museum to me except you can touch stuff, I found treasure! Up on the second floor balcony quietly sitting on the floor was a fancy wooden lazy susan-like flower sculpture with a shell lining. The center bowl was surrounded by ‘petals’ that lift out for serving or displaying or who knows what?

NEW! Delightful Aqua Relics
This round series was inspired by a small  vintage Japanese book of daily inspirations called Tsure Zure Gusa, that my gallery friend, Satoko brought back for me from Japan.  I was  a bit hesitant to take the pages apart, the risk was worth it. The delicate papers with my added aqua stencil wash turned out beautifully.  Other ingredients are local sea glass, ceramic shards, buttons, coins, stamps, ribbons, and more.

A thin round tin with small cutouts and indentations came my way that was perfect to mount an Aqua Delight on. I treated the main surface with a stenciled wash. Found marbles, buttons and good luck coins fill the outer circle. The adorned tin is mounted on a large wooden good luck coin that hung in my studio forever. It’s the perfect diameter and good energy, so I gave it up for ‘the cause’.
