"Fortitude" is made using a vintage Kodak film canister. Perfect for this show!
I like giving new life to ordinary items we all use, especially spoons. The aged patina of the metals is even more lovely with added depth after it went through a fire. Several items were scavenged from a different fire including two spoons, the tea kettle lid, and the metal top of a burned Earth, Wind, and Fire music box. Other items are a carved bone knob, coins, metal covered wooden heart, Bodhi leaves, clay lotus charm, antique ribbon and an ancient spoon that holds much mystery to me.
Antique Hardware Series
Most of this show are antique pages from an interesting hardware catalog from the 1880’s. There is a vintage bookshop in Nevada City where I live. They occasionally set free books out at their door. Last year I was thrilled to find a clump of pages of old fancy hardware illustrations. Door plates, hooks, handles, and pulls. Plus some of the pages had old postcards, trivia of the time, newspaper stories and poems glued to one side. They didn’t have ‘scratch’ paper back then. Those colorful pages are natural collages. Sometimes it was hard to decide which side of the page to use.
