Past Show at Wilbur Hot Springs
There is a human charm that enhances things when used over time. I love studying ordinary and mysterious objects found in our everyday life. Lately, vintage trunks and travel suitcases keep finding their way to me. Whimsical Copper Star features a metal disc that is a music plate from the late 1800’s . It is played in a music box, similar to a player piano. Each hole represents a note. The effect reminds me of stars and constellations, hence the simple star shape. The rim of an old wine barrel top outlines the piece. Found at Wilbur, along with the weathered wood siding and fence wire. I’ve been fortunate to be connected to the land and waters at Wilbur for over 30 years, when I first came there as a resident artist back in 1983. In 2014 there was a hotel fire that destroyed the top two floors of the historic site. I had an exhibit on the first floor that was transformed with the smoke and heat. Most pieces survived, though they each needed renewing and are referred to as Phoenix in the title. All pieces have been sold. |
