ReAwakening Beauty: The Art of Assemblage
September 1 - 3, 2018
3 Day Workshop
Mendocino Art Center
What is that SPARKLE of life that unexpectedly catches our attention and heart? Wonder, curiosity and awe live right under our nose. Often we’re too busy to notice. This three-day creative workshop invites us all to delve into the realm of playfulness and joy. Reawakening to beauty and adjusting our vision to recognize it.
In our shiny, technological world NEW is not always better. To me, nothing compares to the charm and mystery of weathered and worn castoffs. Fascinating untold stories are held in these treasures of humanity. Do you save special tidbits, collections from nature, treasures and mementos from life events? Then the journey of appreciation has already begun.
“Assemblage,” a fancy term for putting together collected and found objects, is a fun, hands on way to cultivate beauty. We will each make our own unique assemblage style art piece. Creating small practice pieces along the way.
Learn the value of visual simplicity, a benefit that can be carried into all facets of life. The simple and satisfying art of placement, and the impact of shapes and textures will be addressed. Practical guidance with basic construction, tools, secrets of the trade, and encaustic (melted beeswax) methods will be shown. We’ll also cultivate the valuable inner gifts of gratefulness, intention, and synchronicity. Plenty of individual assistance as needed.
Creativity exists in each one of us. No art experience necessary. And for the advanced, deepen your talent to add magic into your technique. Let lightness lead your life. Come be uplifted by the rich, quiet depth that makes ourselves and art come alive.
